Children thrive when their environments are safe, stable, and predictable. Right now, however, Michigan families with young children are facing threats on two fronts, and your voice matters.
Protect Children in Early Learning Spaces
Michigan State Senate Bill 508 (SB 508) would prohibit immigration enforcement actions at sensitive locations, such as schools and child care centers.
When enforcement occurs in or near early learning environments:
- Children may witness a parent or caregiver being detained
- Families may stop attending school or child care out of fear
- Children experience stress and trauma that can disrupt development
Take action: Contact your state senator and educate them on the importance of having public policy that protects children from immigration enforcement actions.

Prevent a Federal Government Shutdown
Congress is operating under a short-term funding plan that expires January 30. Without action, the federal government could shut down — and families with young children would feel the impact first.
A shutdown could disrupt:
- Child care and Head Start programs
- Early intervention and disability services
- Providers’ ability to keep classrooms open
Take action: Contact your members of Congress and urge them to protect young children and families by allowing bipartisan child care and early learning investments to move forward without disruption. The Senate must separate the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill from the remaining funding measures so critical services can advance.
